Research Backgrounds

Function:

Zinc transporter, that transports Zn(2+) from the endoplasmic reticulum/Golgi apparatus to the cytosol. Transport is stimulated by growth factors, such as EGF, and Ca(2+), as well as by exogenous Zn(2+).

PTMs:

Rapidly phosphorylated by CK2 following Zn(2+) treatment. This phosphorylation is required for efficient cytosolic Zn(2+) release.

Subcellular Location:

Endoplasmic reticulum membrane>Multi-pass membrane protein. Golgi apparatus>cis-Golgi network membrane.

Extracellular region or secreted Cytosol Plasma membrane Cytoskeleton Lysosome Endosome Peroxisome ER Golgi apparatus Nucleus Mitochondrion Manual annotation Automatic computational assertionSubcellular location
Tissue Specificity:

Widely expressed.

Family&Domains:

Belongs to the ZIP transporter (TC 2.A.5) family. KE4/Catsup subfamily.
