Gene(ID):
Expression:
P28562 DUS1_HUMAN:

Expressed at high levels in the lung, liver placenta and pancreas. Moderate levels seen in the heart and skeletal muscle. Lower levels found in the brain and kidney.

Description:
The expression of DUSP1 gene is induced in human skin fibroblasts by oxidative/heat stress and growth factors. It specifies a protein with structural features similar to members of the non-receptor-type protein-tyrosine phosphatase family, and which has significant amino-acid sequence similarity to a Tyr/Ser-protein phosphatase encoded by the late gene H1 of vaccinia virus.

Research Backgrounds

Function:

Dual specificity phosphatase that dephosphorylates MAP kinase MAPK1/ERK2 on both 'Thr-183' and 'Tyr-185', regulating its activity during the meiotic cell cycle.

PTMs:

Phosphorylation at Ser-359 and Ser-364 by MAPK1/ERK2 and MAPK3/ERK1 reduces its rate of degradation.

Subcellular Location:

Nucleus.

Extracellular region or secreted Cytosol Plasma membrane Cytoskeleton Lysosome Endosome Peroxisome ER Golgi apparatus Nucleus Mitochondrion Manual annotation Automatic computational assertionSubcellular location
Tissue Specificity:

Expressed at high levels in the lung, liver placenta and pancreas. Moderate levels seen in the heart and skeletal muscle. Lower levels found in the brain and kidney.

Family&Domains:

Belongs to the protein-tyrosine phosphatase family. Non-receptor class dual specificity subfamily.

Function:

Regulates mitogenic signal transduction by dephosphorylating both Thr and Tyr residues on MAP kinases ERK1 and ERK2.

PTMs:

Phosphorylation in the C-terminus by ERK1/2 inhibits proteasomal degradation and stabilizes the protein.

Subcellular Location:

Nucleus.

Subunit Structure:

Hollow spherical complex composed of 24 subunits with pseudooctahedral symmetry, has a tetramer as the basic unit.

Family&Domains:

Belongs to the protein-tyrosine phosphatase family. Non-receptor class dual specificity subfamily.
